TheMosque itself is one of the most ancient andmost venerated of ail Mohammedan edifices. Itstands on the site once occupied by SolomonsTemple, and is said to have been founded bythe Caliph Omar, who is reverenced by all Mo-hammedans, next to the prophet himself.
