Fights on with 29 Shrapnel Wounds. Coast Guardsmen Cleo Earl Kidd, seaman first class, of Perkins, Oklahoma, was the hero of a surprise Jap bombing attack on a Coast Guard-manned LST off Cape Gloucester, New Britain, recently. With 29 shrapnel wounds in his chest and body and with a severely wounded right leg, Fighter Kidd stuck to his post as talker for a 20 mm. gun battery until the Jap bombers were driven off and three were shot down by the Coast Guard gunners. The action was hot, as the hole in the armor shield forcefully indicates.
