Plymouth’s Barbican harbour in 1984 before the fishing fleet was moved to a nearby location allowing the site to be redeveloped
Plymouth’s Barbican harbour was enclosed by a lock in 1993 and the 1890s Victorian fish market on Sutton Harbour at the eastern end of Southside Street was closed and redeveloped while a successful modern fish market opened across Sutton Harbour at Coxside. These photographs date from 1984 and capture the early morning atmosphere as trawlers and small fishing boats arrived to offload their catches which were auctioned at the harbor side in what is now looked back upon as being some of the the fishing fleet’s boom
