He is a fellow of the Amer-ican society of civil engineers, a member of the Ohiosociety, of the Engineers, Manhattan Athletic, NewYork Yacht, and Corinthian Yacht clubs, and of theNew York geographical society. He owns a hand-some residence in Washington, D. C, and in 1888purchased for a summer home the old homestead onStaten Island that formerly belonged to Sir EdwardCunard.
