TheAcademy, the Morayshire Railway, the Assembly Rooms, theMuseum, were some of the public institutions he was concerned time to time he published various local books, still accepted asauthorities. Two of these books locally bear his name. The one, aSurvey of the Province of Moray, Historical, Geographical, and Political,published in 1798, is called Muckle Isaac ; the other, an Account of. Mr Isaac Forsyth. ELGIN PAST AND PRESENT 223 the Antiquities, Modern Buildings, and Natural Curiosities of theProvince of Moray, worthy of the attention of the Tourist,with an Itinerary of the Province, of which the first editionappeared in 1813, and the second, adjusted to the passingtime, in 1823, is, from its smaller size, known as Little joint author of the former and the sole author of the latterwork being the Rev. William Leslie, minister of St Andrews-Lhanbryde. In 1851 Mr Forsyth was invited to sit for his portrait with a view toits being placed in the Assembly Rooms. The painter was Mr Innesof Edinburgh, and the likeness is decidedly good. A copy of it is heregiven.
