MCALLEN, Texas – (Oct. 5, 2015) Palmyra, Ill. native, Lt. Cmdr. Justin Kilmer, an instructor pilot with VT-22 Training Squadron, Naval Air Station Kingsville, along with student pilot and Fredrick, Md. native, Marine Corps 1st Lt. Meleah Martin, briefs educators on the T-45 training aircraft and on careers in naval aviation and the (STEM) science, technology, engineering and mathematics education requirements for becoming a naval aviator at McCreery Aviation during an aviation excursion in support of the 2015 Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week (HESTEC) held on the campus of the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. Naval Officers and Sailors took teachers on the excursion during Educators Day. The excursion provided the educators the opportunity to talk with instructors and student pilots of VT-22 and tour two T-45 aircraft. HESTEC Week is an educational conference that features events geared towards promoting STEM education to people of all ages and backgrounds.
