Detail from the historic Tenterfield Railway Museum in the New England region of New South Wales, near the Queensland state border, in Australia.
The railway service to Tenterfield (in the New England region of the Australian state of New South Wales, near the Queensland state border) opened on 28 October 1884. It formed part of the 'Main North' railway line service. When a rail link up to the Queensland border was completed, Sydney (NSW) and Brisbane (QLD) were linked by rail for the first time. The railway route was subsequently bypassed by the 'North Coast' line between Sydney and Brisbane, which was completed in 1932. The Main North line is now closed north of Armidale, and Tenterfield train station has become a historic railway museum.
