Francois van Rysselberghe (1846-1893). 1867 illustration of the Belgian engineer and meteorologist Francois van Rysselberghe. Van Rysselberghe proposed the principle of transmitting telephone and telegraph signals along the same wires, making long-distance telephone calls possible. He also worked on meteorology, becoming director of the Belgian Meteorological Office.
