In thechapel of the castle at Newcastle are preserved the remains of a IN ENGLAND AND WALES. 83 stone coffin-lid of very early date, upon which is incised a swordin this position. The inscription, which is also incised upon thismemorial, I am unable to decipher; the annexed figure gives anexact fac-simile of it.
