Kindly let me know what would be the necessary horse-power of a tubular steam boiler to heat 25,000 square feet of glass here, in central Illinois. E. R. The size of the boiler will vary with the temperature desired. While one rated at fifty horse-power would answer when 45 to 50 degrees is needed, it will be advisable to have at least sixty horse-power if a temperature of 60 de- grees is to be maintained, and the ca- pacity of the boiler should be propor- tionately increased for higher tempera- tures. ' AMOUNT OF RADIATION. Will you kindly let me know the number of square feet of radiation re- quired for a plant house having ap- proximately 5,000 square feet of glass? The house measures 40x60 and the ridge is about twenty-five feet above the floor. Steam heat will be used, under about five pounds of pressure.
