Beauchamp sails to Jerusalem. Late 15th-century manuscript page depicting the start of the pilgrimage undertaken by the English nobleman and military commander Richard de Beauchamp (1382-1439), 13th Earl of Warwick. He sailed for Jerusalem in 1408, not returning to England until 1410. In the foreground the earl, dressed as a pilgrim, is being helped into a small boat. The upper portion of the picture shows the earl's ship, a carrack, under sail. This manuscript page is from a collection held in the British Library, known as the 'Beauchamp pageants'. The manuscripts, produced in Bruges, date from circa 1484 to 1490.
