Royal Mail "Atlantis"

The Royal Mail Lines' SS ATLANTIS was a well-known dedicated cruise ship of the 1930s operating primarily UK-based cruises. A brochure was produced to advertise a series of cruises lasting from 16 to 24 days. Percy Padden (1885-1965) created several of the gorgeous images used for the catalogs and display-size posters. This example is from the RML's Nordic/Baltic "Sunshine Cruises." Based on the snipe attached at the bottom of this poster, it was distributed for promotion in Belgium. A pedestrian in Brussels would have peered into a window at this enticing scene -- the stately RM liner reflecting off of glassy, pristine waters nestled deeply in a lush fjordland paradise.
