To begin with, the British held the shipping papers for weeks; then the congestion on the dock was something terrific and the railroads have seemed powerless to expedite the movement of cars. A considerable pro- portion of the bulbs have spoiled. The greater part of the imports on the Waaldyk and Schiedyk, representing fully a normal season's supply, have now been put on the rail, but there remain on the dock some thousands of cases, either unidentifiable in the confu- sion which has existed, or abandoned by those who considered the game not worth the candle. So much time has been lost and winter has come so early in many parts of the country that the present prospect for cleaning up the Dutch bulbs is extremely discouraging.
