Germany, Berlin, Mitte, 1-3 October 2018. The Day of German Unity, State Hospitality tents and displays at street der Deutschen Einheit on the 3rd October is Germany's national holiday. It commemorates the German reunification in 1990 after the fall of the Berlin Wall and is being celebrated with a 3-day festival around Platz der Republik, Straße des 17. Juni and Brandenburg Gate. The day is being hosted by the State of Berlin this year as part of its Federal Council Presidency. The motto is ‘only with you’, ‘Nur mit euch’ and is a celebration of democracy and freedom. The festival is taking place from 1-3 October and will be celebrated with live bands, displays and food and drinks stalls. The 16 federal states and constitutional bodies Bundestag, Federal Government and Bundesrat welcome visitors to displays & tents on & around the Platz der Republik. The yellow "Einheitsband" (Unity strip) with the names of 11000 German communities symbolize the unity of Germany makes a path through the area. Sport and history are not neglected. The History and Culture of Remembrance area in front of the Soviet Memorial on the Straße des 17. Juni provides details of events dealing with German unification. The Sports area focuses on the reunited, multifaceted sports metropolis of Berlin. The grand finale will be a unity concert on the evening of the 3rd October in front of the Brandenburg Gate.
