Damaged computer RAM module. Light micrograph of a break in the chip of a 128 megabyte PC-100 series synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM)
Damaged computer RAM module. Light micrograph of a break in the chip of a 128 megabyte PC-100 series synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) module. The damage allows the overlapping metalization layers used in fabrication of the chip to be seen. Random-access technology allows the computer's central processing unit (CPU) to read and write data very quickly. The chip can reach very high densities of storage and is therefore generally used as the main memory in personal computers. Magnification: x450, when printed 10 centimetres wide.
