Genium prosthetic leg. Amputee climbing stairs using a prosthetic leg that incorporates Genium knee technology. This advanced computerised knee, improving on previous C-Leg technology that was unable to climb stairs, has been developed by the German company Otto Bock. The Genium was launched in 2011. It has multiple sensors that allow it to adapt to different actions, such as changing direction, slowing down or speeding up, and climbing or descending stairs. The amputee here is 45-year-old Gerhard Grundner, a retired Austrian soldier who was one of the first to be fitted with the Genium leg. Photographed in Vienna, Austria.
