TU and held other offices of trust, at one time servingas excise commissioner. He took an active inter-est in the welfare of Phoenix. A. E. Russ, the grocer at the corner of Canaland Lock streets—a bnsiness which he purchasedfrom father and which today is being carriedon in the oldest business place in Phtenix, beganworking in his fathers mills at Pennellville in1872 and in the spring of 1875 went into the .storeof which he became the proprietor the followingyear. On Jan. 28, 1880, he married Carrie of Phienix. Mr. Russ, besides otherbusiness interests, has stock in the Phoenixsliding blind works and the Phoenix Dis-tillery and Yeast Co. He held the ofHce of vil-lage treasurer three or four years, town clerk fouror five years and super-visor four years. H. C. Russ, a clerk forhis brother, with the ex-ception of a sViort sojournin the west has ah\aysresided in Phienix, hav-ing been with his constantl
