It is a matter of regret that I wasunable to procure a photograph of an oldstag with fully-developed antlers, since atthe present time much interest attachesto these appendages owing to the curiousdifferences in form which have beenrecently shown to occur in those of certainindividuals from the normal type. Thoseof my readers who desire information onthis point cannot do better than consultan article by Dr. E. Lonnberg, of Upsala,lately published in the London ZoologicalSocietys Described and Illustrated with Photographs by W. P. Dando, An interesting and attractive addition toThe t^^ Societys collection was BactrianCamel. born in the menagerie at thebeginning of April. This, Ibelieve, is the first camel bred and born at theZoo, although the same parent arrived in foalwdien deposited in the Gardens some twoyears ago. The young male is a very tallspecimen, as can be judged by comparing hisheight with that of his mother; the singlepose shows how leggy he is. The twoblack markings on the back of the animal arein reality thehumps hangingdown in the formof loose skin,which will gradu-ally be filled present theyare quite loose,but when theyare held up theshape of thehumps can beplainly seen. Themother is a nativeof Siberia and isvery docile; but,as Palgrave ob-served, if docilitymeans stupid,well and good;in such a casethe camel is thevery model of
