The instrument is so sensitive that half an x, the twentieth partof an erythema dose, can be measured. The degree of ionisation varies withthe penetrating power, and the instrument can be calibrated for variousdegrees of it by placing diaphragms of lead over the ionisation chamber, sothat the area exposed to the influence of the X-rays can be made larger orsmaller. The instrument is new, and its practical value has yet to be theory it is certainly good. Lovibonds Tintometer (perfected by Dr. Dudley Corbett) provides avery accurate method of estimating the degree of coloration of the Sabouraud-. IV,. Lovibonds tintometer, adapted and standardised for the accurate measurement ofthe colour-changes in the Sabouraud-Noire pastille by Dr. Dudley Corbett. (The Tinto-meter, Ltd.) Noire pastille. The apparatus consists of a tube or oblong viewing box, divided into two by a vertical partition, so that on looking through theeye-piece against the background two small white circles are seen. At thedistant end of the box are frames provided for the insertion of the glassstandards ; on the right for the colour tints, and on the left for a neutral tintif required. The use of the latter will be explained below. The backgroundis composed of pure white standard paper. In the background support is LOVIBONUS TINTOMETEK 289 cut a shallow groove or a hole for the pastille holder, depending on thetype used, so that the pastille can be examined without removal from itsholder. The tint of the pastille is thus compared with the standard inser
