Mezcal can only be produced from specific type of agave, which only grows in certain areas of Mexico. A Mexican tale says that Mezcal was discovered when a lightning bolt struck an agave plant, cooking it and releasing its juice. Mezcal, a cousin of tequila became known as the 'elixir of the gods.'
