First, on the right hand, stands the NorthCongregational Church, (Rev. Dr. Hawes.) The building inthe center with a tall spire, is the First Church, (Rev. Dr. No-bles, ) which occupies nearly the site of the original building,constructed for Mr. Davenports society. Near this at the west,stands what was formerly the State House, an edifice of theDoric order of architecture after the model of the Parthenon atAthens.
