I offeredthe guides and hunters five dollarsfor a male bird and two dollars anda half for a female—not necessary tooffer them more, for what I offeredwas enough to induce them to keeptheir eyes open. On March 16th, aguide by the name of Williams, whileout after deer, saw a male bird highup on a cypress tree.
