L. McArthur. This will be nmch more simple than agastrostomy, and, if aseptic liquid nourishment only is employed, the methodseems to have great merit. It is important to arrange the apparatus in such amanner that the flow takes place very slowly. The same result can be accomplished by passing a small, soft, pure rubbertube, not more than 1 cm. in diameter, through the nose into the stomach, andthrough the stomach into the jejunum, precisely in the same manner as illustratedin Fig. 149. Peptonized food can then be slowly injected through this tube, which will deliver it into the jejunum without touching the stomach. Still another method may be followed. The tube may be passed through. Fig. 144. -Finneys Pyloroplasty Completed. The diagram shows the continuous Lembert suturein front. A silkworm-gutsuture is passed through the upper end of the tube out through the mouth andfastened to prevent the tube from being swallowed. Patients become accustomedvery quickly to the thread projecting from the mouth and it does not annoythem. The food may be introduced into the upper end of this tube through aglass tube attached to the end of a funnel by means of a piece of rubber the mode of feeding selected is that by means of the tube introduced as shownin Fig. 149, gastrostomy must be made in such a manner that the opening inthe stomach will close spontaneously when the feeding tube is withd
