. Florists' review [microform]. Floriculture. ? .^/^J,li••^''? T'/xv'>? "^^ 114 The Florists' Review JcNB 15. 1922 from which he buys his stock. The cus- tomer knows that a merchant who does not discount his bills is looked upon with suspicion by his banker as well as the wholesaler, because the merchant is permitting a good profit to be lost. Advantages to Customer. By making a cash deposit the cus- tomer is benefited also. In addition to a number of other benefits, he receives valuable stock free of charge. In other words, the customer saves ten per cent, because he gets ten per cent of his money paid in advance in extra trees and plants. If the customer makes an advance payment of $20, he gets ten per cent of this advance payment in extra stock. If the advance payment is made three months before time for delivery, this stock received represents forty per cent interest on the cash ad- vance paid. The customer will in this way be able to buy his trees cheaper, be- cause the nurseryman will be dealing with a higher type of customer, who is sure to pay his bills on time. The "bad debts" item is to some extent elimi- nated and the good customer will not be required to pay the debts of the bad customer. Above all, the customer is protected from dishonesty and fraud through unscrupulous tree dealers and agents. Presenting Plan. The salesman should be specific in presenting the plan to the customer. Experience has shown that salesmen can best arouse the interest of the cus- tomer by keeping in mind some specific tree, shrub or plant which will appeal to the customer as a bonus. This is better than just making the mere state- ment that extra nursery stock will be given as a bonus. The salesman, from his list of premium stock, can allow the customer to select what he prefers. The following is a letter given by the prin- cipal to the agent, more satisfactorily to establish the agent's identity and to show the customer tliat the agent is working in good
