The demand for flowers for window dressing is also cut down, and in the larger and more prominent stores, window decorations are light and consist mostly of stock plants. Roses move fairly well when of good quality, due no doubt t-o the fact that the bulk of shipments are decidedly the reverse. Many rose growers are sending in flowers which should have been thrown out, and do not warrant the express charges paid on them. White roses, although a little better in supply than last week, are poor and after a selection of the best the balance go a begging unless wanted for cheap make- up work. American Beauty roses are a trifle stronger, the quality of the dif- ferent grades running better on them than other sorts. Small shipments of the new crop of Bride and Bridesmaid roses came in this week, of course only in the short grades, but the improvement in quality noticeable was quite refreshing. Carnations are very plentiful, but not much can be said for the quality. They move fairly well at. some price or other, maximum market quotations applying only to the best, which means flowers with good head and stem, a commodity sent in by very few growers just now. Lilies are in fair supply and on some days move lively. While quoted prices cover the range they are governed by the daily demand and the maximum is only reached by the very finest grades when requirements are urgent. Lilium auratum is coming in and moves fairly well, top quality bringing as high as 4 cents. Lily of the valley moves slowly, and much is sold at concessions from regular prices. The
