Phytophotodermatitis

Phytophotodermatitis on the torso of a young man after eating limes in the sun with his shirt off. This inflammation of the skin is a cutaneous phototoxic inflammatory reaction. It occurs following exposure to light-sensitizing plant chemicals, followed by exposure to sunlight (which contains the triggering ultraviolet light). It is also known as lime disease, as compounds in some plants such as citrus fruits can cause the reaction.
