The Yukon Territory, its history and resources . a report on the climate andflora of the Yukon Territory, described the effect of the Coastrange of mountains on the climate, as follows:— Instead of the Coast range being an injury to the interior,it makes the climate pleasant both in summer and winter. TheYukon district has two climates, a wet and cold one on thecoast, which may be called the Alaskan climate, as nearly allthe coast region belongs to the United States. The climate ofthe Yukon district in Canada is just the reverse, being dryand warm in summer and cold in winter, with a light snow-fall. Owing to the moisture rising from the warm Japanesecurrent being carried inland by the upper southwest aircurrent and striking the Coast range, this moisture is at onceprecipitated on the sea face of these mountains in the form ofrain or snow, and the air freed from its moisture descendson the Yukon plain as dry air and having an increasedtemperature. It follows that the rainfnll must be light insummer and also the snowfall in Tunnel on Wliite Pass and Yukon Kailroad between Skagway,Alaska, and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.
