St Asaph Cathedral, the Choir

One of the smallest of the ancient cathedrals, St Asaph was built by St Kentigern who left Wales to return to Scotland. Bishop Asaph was his successor. The early building was destroyed but another church was built in the 13th century and parts of this building are still extant. Further destruction followed and it was not until the 19th century that the cathedral was restored fully. The cathedral is noted as the home of the William Morgan Bible published in the Welsh language in 1588 including both the Old Testament and a revised version of the New Testament published earlier by Salesbury. The picture was drawn by C. Warren from a sketch by Benjamin Baud, and engraved by Benjamin Winkles.
