Modern statue of St Julian the Hospitaller over the S porch of his church at Wellow, Bath and NE Somerset, England, UK. Julian is the patron saint of innkeepers, boatmen (especially ferrymen), and travellers. In his legend he & his wife set up a hospital for the poor beside a major river crossing & he acted as guide & ferryman to travellers. He holds an oar in his L hand, his R hand is raised in blessing. The statue was carved in 1952 by Wellow resident Gilbert Sumsion during restoration work.
