Orthodox Church of St. John The Theologian in Chełm, Poland


It was erected in the years 1846-52 by Wincenty Łańcucki from Sieniawa under Jan Lasota' s direction for the needs of the Russian garrison stationed in Chełm. Woodwork wad done by Karol Kubik from Leżajsk. Built in the classicistic style, it is kept in the Byzantine-Russian type on a Greek cross plane with turrets in the corners. It is a single-storey building with a soaring central lantern which, similary to the smaller turrets, is topped with onion domes. At present it is a parish Orthodox church. (source: Wikipedia)
