The solidity of the workmanship and materials of theSingham Mahal, will doubtless, for many years to come, enable it to resist the wear oftime and the fury of the elements; but Ichabod is written over its gates: and it isimpossible to stand upon the massive tower and look down upon the country at itsfeet, without feeling of a truth that the glory of the land bas departed. The ruin before us was evidently but a small portion of the original structure,Avhich would appear to have been less burthened with ornament than the buildings ofthe city, and to approximate in style to the design of the Asser Mahal before noticed,and with which, in all probability, it was coeval, if not built by the same architect. 5=2.
