Lava flows of the 1984 eruption in the Krafla volcanic area
Lava flows of the 1984 eruption in the Krafla volcanic area, Krafla caldera. The volcanic activity episode called Krafla Fires took place during 1979-84 in this caldera. The lava flowed from a row of craters in the area of Leirhnjúkur. There was an earlier eruption event in the area called Mývatn Fires, which took place in 1720's. Krafla is located in the Mývatn region in Norðurland eystra (North-East Iceland).
