The former St. George's Syrian Catholic Church on Washington Street in Lower Manhattan is seen on Monday, January 2, 2011. The church and the adjacent building, the former Downtown Community House, a settlement house, are all that remains of the Little Syria neighborhood in downtown. The construction of the World Trade Center and the entrance and exit ramps to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel razed many of the buildings of the community. (© Richard B. Levine)
