As monsoon looms over Manikganj district, Dhaka, Bangladesh the boat makers in the district have been very busy building boats which are widely used as vessels in rural areas during this season. Buyers from outside the district, including Savar and Aminbazar of Dhaka, throng Ghior haat, Manikganj to purchase boats. In this traditional market, hundreds of hand-crafted wooden boats up for sale are laid out on the grass at a market. Used by the locals during the monsoon season when heavy rain floods villages and roads, each vessel costs between BDT 1,500 to BDT 5,000 depending on their size and the quality of the materials used to build well-renowned market has sold the boats here every Wednesday in the week for the past 50 years between June and October.
