The chief had a gun,and they were both mounted on quite decentponies. They stuck to our party valiantly tilllunch time! having probably scented tit bitsfrom afar. We did not understand a word theysaid, but gathered from the Major that theyintended to shoot a big paauw for us, if theywere presented with some cartridges.
