Newspaper Rock, ancient petroglyphs.
The petroglyphs on Newspaper Rock are thought to be about 2000 years old, dating from 700 BC - 1300 AD. They were etched into the sandstone by earlier civilisations and laetr the navajo. In Navajo the rock is known as "Tse Hane" - The rock that tells a story. It it not known what the figures represent. Possible explanations include story telling, hunting magic, clan symbols, doodling or ancient graffiti. The Rock is both a State and National Historic Monument.
