Epidural (brain) haemorrhage. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan showing a transverse section of the skull with a recent epidural haemorrhage (red oval feature at centre left); this is the result of a ruptured blood vessel in the epidural space. The haemorrhage is occupying part of the epidural space. The close fit of the meninges, the membranes that cover the brain, causes it to compress the brain tissue to the right and causes a reduction in size of the right lateral ventricle (centre on image, in purple); this is one of the fluid-filled chambers at the centre of the brain.
