The Desault bandage is usedin fractures of the clavicle, thepad being the fulcrum overwhich the second roller forcesthe arm to the side in such amanner as to correct the inwarddisplacement. The third roller,by elevating the shoulder, cor-rects the downward and forwarddisplacement. Figure-of-8 Bandage of theElbow.—The bandage (Fig, 61) should be applied with the elbowflexed. The initial extremity of the bandage is fixed hj oneor more circular turns made a few inches below the elbow-joint. The roller is then carried across the flexure of the jointand a circular turn is made a few inches above the joint. Theroller is then carried obliquely to the starting-point and acircular turn is made there. Circular turns below the joint. Fig. 61.—^Figure-of-8 bandage ofthe elbow. (Fowlers Surgery.) BANDAGING 87 alternate with those above the joint, the bandage each timeobliquely crossing the flexure of the elbow. The circular turnsgradually approach the tip of the olecranon from both bandage is finally completed by a circular turn around theflexure, thus covering in the olecranon. A neater effect may beproduced by first passing a circular turn around the flexure ofthe joint and over the tip of the olecranonthen a circular turn below, and then oneabove, and so on until the joint is com-pletely covered, each turn covering in two-thirds of the preceding one. Reversed Spiral Bandage of the UpperExtremity.—The initial extremity of thebandage (Fig. 62) is fixed by means of oneor two circular turns around the roller is then carried obliquely acrossthe back of the hand to the level of thelast phalangeal joint.
