This shot was taken near the primary crater of the Sierra Negro volcano on Isabela Island in the Galapagos chain, in Ecuador. A recent eruption had destroyed nearly all the plant and animal life, normally abundant, at the higher elevations of the mountain. This photo captures the desolate but beautiful quality of the dry earth and a few specimens of plant life trying to survive in such a volatile, rocky climate.
