The specimensgathered by me in 1831,—from one of which, assisted by asketch made at the time from the fresh plant, the plate nowgiven has been prepared,—were collected in rock pools of saltwater into which the sea only flows at spring tides, situated atthe extremity of Spanish Point, Miltown Malbay. I haverepeatedly sought for the plant on subsequent visits to the westcoast, but never successfully, nor have I received specimensfrom any correspondent. The only continental author who has VOL. III. s noticed this plant is Kiitzing, who describes what he regards asthe same from the shores of the Adriatic, but it would be satis-factory to have specimens from each locality compared togetherbefore deciding on their identity.
