Shortfin lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus). This fish is found near reefs and weed-covered rocks in the shallow lagoons of the Indo-Pacific. It is nocturnal, emerging at night to feed on small crustaceans. Its decorative fins conceal venomous spines, which the lionfish uses to defend itself against predators. Photographed in Kungkungan Bay, Sulawesi, Indonesia.
