Will it do to expect success if carna- tion rooted cuttings are set directly from the sand to the field in well pre- pared ground? We are buying several hundred and thought, owing to the late- ness of the seaso,n, that this would be the best plan. M. G.—Ind. Carnation cuttings taken' from the propagating bench at this late date should not be expected to produce strong, high-grade stock for blooming next season. Instead of planting these cuttings in the field, pot them in the smallest pots you have. Transfer to the field as soon as tlfey become estab- lished well enough to hold the ball of earth. Under the plan you suggest, you would in all probability lose most of them. A. F. J. B. Macon, Ga.—D. C. Horgan, of the Idle Hour Nurseries, has been elected a director of the Macon Rotary Club.
