When the truckframe is raised sufficiently, an oak tie should be placedon top of the rails and under both sides of the truckframe, just ahead of or behind the pair of wheels withthe broken journal. The truck frame should then be letdown, so that it rests on top of the tie, and secured witha chain. The wheels with the broken journal shouldthen be removed or fastened in such a manner that theycan do no further damage (Plate 83), the tank skiddedto the nearest siding and assistance sent PLATE 83. If it is a semi-ellipticspring extending from one truck box to the other theblocking should be done between the top of the bol-ster and the bottom sill of the tank. If a swing truck,the blocking should be between the bolster and thesand board instead of the spring. BROKEN ENGINE TRUCK SPRING OR EQUALIZER. If an engine truck spring or equalizer is broken, oneend of a fulcrum post of the proper length should beplaced on a tie and the other end placed under the jawof the engine truck frame on the side on which thespring or equalizer is broken, and the engine movedahead or back.
