These four Amsterdam regents, all sons or cousins of the sitting mayors of the year 1648, laid the foundation stone of the town hall in the same year. On the pedestal the inaugural text, which refers to the Peace of Munster and the first -life laying. To the left of the pedestal the river god (personification) of the IJ, including a ship's crown, fishnet, anchor and stir. On the right the river god (personification) of the Amstel, including a rowing belt, enterhaak, aquatic plants and a beaver - that refers to Dam -Building Animal over the Amstel to which the city thanks its name. De Vierschaar was a public court that was only used by Schout and Aldermen for pronouncing death sentences.
