Following the recent approval by the Army Corps of Engineers of the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline -- 1,1700-mile long, 30" diameter conduit for domestic crude oil running from North Dakota to Illinois -- a coalition of environmental activists including actresses Shailene Woodley and Rosario Dawson and director Josh Fox held a rally in Union Square Park, in New York City to oppose the project and to raise awareness of what they allege are its potential ecological consequences. The rally was scheduled allow for the participation of a group of youth from Standing Rock reservations who arrived on Sunday afternoon after completing a symbolic protest run from North Dakota to Washington, through whose reservations the pipeline will pass.
