Within the car there is apparatus by means of which a continuousgraphical record may be kept of motor current, voltage, speed, time, distance, location, and brake cylinder pressure upon a chart 40 inchesin width. The Chart.—Fig. 9 has been reproduced from a tracing of a portionof the chart for test No. 121. The records there shown are groupedmore closely together than in the original record, and the transverselines which mark one of the sections selected for calculation and someof the explanatory lettering do not appear thereon. This chart is DUNN—RESISTANCE OF A 28-TON ELECTRIC OAR. 28 ILLINOIS ENGINEERING EXPERIMENT STATION caused to pass from a supply roll, over a series of tension and guiderolls and the recording table, and is then rewound upon a detachablerecord roll. As the paper travels over the table the instruments draw-on it continuous records of the above mentioned data. The papermay be driven by a motor, thus making the records on a time base, orby a flexible shaft geared to the axle, thereby making them on a distancebase. Current Record.—The current taken by the motors is recorded bya General Electric graphic recording ammeter which is excited from astorage battery. A rheostat is provided for the adjustment of theexciting current which should be kept at a constant predetermined readings may be made by means of an indicating ammeter in thesame circuit as the recording meter. Voltage Record.—The voltage record is made by a General Electricgraphic recording voltmeter which is likewise e
