1918 colour-tinted postcard with pleasure ride sail boats, people, mother, boy and girl, Central Sands to North Pier, Blackpool

A colour-tinted postcard shot, entitled 'The Bairns at Blackpool', posted in Blackpool 14 August 1918. It shows children and people on the Central Sands, towards the North Pier, and is one of the 'Lyric Series' of picture postcards. The sail-boats, testimony to Blackpool's fishing origins, are giving pleasure rides to visitors and did so until the 1960s. Note the long seaward extension of the North Pier (left background) for the safe docking of pleasure
