In Orissa one out of every four persons is an Adivasi or Tribal. Orissa has 62 distinct tribal groups, making it the largest collection of tribal people in a single state in the country Access to some tribal areas is still strictly restricted. Women wrap long stretch of cloth around them and are adorned with ornaments like bangles, armlets, bracelets, necklaces, rings, hairpins etc usually made of silver, aluminum, and brass. The practice of tattooing is prevalent among women Gadabas or Godabas are one of the most primitive tribes of Orissa living in the southernmost parts of the state in the district of Koraput. The colourful Godaba, or Gadaba, tribal women wear very scanty clothes and don’t tattoo any part of their face or bodies they wear huge Neck rings which are about 500-700 gms each & can not be removed without the help of the Blacksmith. As a part of their tradition, it is only removed after their have their own language known as "GUTUB". The economic life of the gadabas are mainly centered around agriculture supplemented by collection of forest produce, hunting and fishing. The Gadabas domesticate local variety of cows , buffalos, to be used for ploughing. They don’t milk the cows as they believe it reduces their strength.
