The Long island Railroad debuts for the press its "Cannonball" express train in Penn Station in New York on Thursday, April 18, 2013. Every Friday at 4:07 PM during the summer starting May 24 the train, consisting of double-decker cars pulled by a powerful dual-mode locomotive, will run express to Westhampton on Long Island making the 76 mile trip in 94 minutes. From Westhampton it will continue to points east arriving at the tip of the island, Montauk. On Sundays the train will reverse and return to Penn Station. This express trip out to summer fun will only cost $27 each way. The train is the only named run on the railroad. The trip from Penn Station to the Montauk terminal is 117 miles making the train the longest run on the railroad. (© Richard B. Levine)
