November 1, 2012, Brooklyn, NY, US. Three days after Hurricane Sandy, parts of New York's subway system reopened but without service across the East River for thousands of commuters trying to reach Manhattan from Brooklyn and Queens. The MTA is providing special shuttle buses to carry passengers across the river. Some cross the Manhattan Bridge between Brooklyn and Manhattan. Many subway tunnels were flooded by Sandy's storm surge.
